Investment Philosophy
We base our investment decisions on solid academic research, not fleeting trends, to build a disciplined and evidence-driven investment approach. What is evidence base investing?
Evidence-based investing relies on decades of independent research to guide investment decisions. Just as a doctor bases treatment on science, investors should use proven strategies.
Key insights from research include:
- Market Efficiency: Markets quickly incorporate all available information, making it hard to "beat the market."
- Risk and Return: Higher risk generally offers the potential for higher returns—though no guarantees.
- Diversification: Generally reduces risk and may improve long-term gains achieved through low-cost index or Smart Beta funds.
- Lower Costs: Minimising fees can boost net returns over time; index and Smart Beta funds generally have lower fees than fees associated with funds that are actively managed.
The core principles: markets are tough to outperform, risk is rewarded, diversify widely, control costs, and invest for the long haul. Emotional discipline and patience are crucial, especially during market volatility.
